Analog time switch. The clock has 96 pins, one pin for every quarter of an hour of the day. You can press the pins with a pointed object to indicate per 15 minutes whether a device should be on or off. The connected device is then only switched on when you need it.

You place the time switch in the socket and connect an electrical device to the time switch. You set the clock to the correct time and the timer does the rest of the work.
