Ferment instead of making compost!
With the Bokashi kitchen bucket you can ferment your own kitchen waste at home. Mixing kitchen waste with a little Bokashi starter (available for purchase) creates valuable organic material. The added Effective Microorganisms in the Bokashi starter ensure that the fresh organic waste present ferments and therefore does not rot.

Dimensions of the bucket: 31 x 27 x 35 cm

How to use this kitchen bucket
You can make your own organic Bokashi from chopped kitchen waste and any other type of plant remains. With good fermentation, rot and stench do not stand a chance.

Preparation:

  1. Cut organic waste into small pieces.
  2. Spread a small amount of Bokashi starter at the bottom of the kitchen bucket.
  3. Place a layer of fresh organic waste in the bucket.
  4. Spread a small amount of Bokashi starter on the organic waste again.
  5. Press the organic waste.
  6. Close the Bokashi kitchen bucket tightly with the lid.
  7. Repeat this process until the bucket is full.
  8. Drain the collected juice daily. This juice can be used as plant food for house and garden plants. Dilute the Bokashi juice with 100 parts water.
  9. Let the organic waste ferment in the Bokashi kitchen bucket for 1-2 weeks.
  10. The GFT Bokashi is ready when it has a sweet and sour smell.
  11. This can now be worked directly into the soil of the garden or stored with the other compost to be worked in later.
  12. Practical use of GFT-Bokashi is described further in this brochure.

Value of GFT-Bokashi

Unlike regular compost, the energy is retained in GFT-Bokashi.

Bokashi ensures:

  • Good nutrition for soil life.
  • Detoxifying effect on the soil.
  • Good environment for micro-organisms.
  • Faster availability of the absorbable nutrients for the plant.

The Effective Microorganisms present in the Bokashi ensure:

  • The production of all kinds of important bioactive substances, such as enzymes, natural antibiotics and growth hormones, vitamins and antioxidants.
  • A shift to a constructive disease suppressing soil.
  • Greater microbial diversity and activity.

Kitchen bokashi is made from small pieces of kitchen waste in the special Bokashi bucket. The organic kitchen waste is collected as usual in the bucket in the kitchen, sprayed with a little EM (Effective Microorganisms) dilution after each addition and always sprinkled with a touch of ceramic powder. About every two days, put the waste in the Bokashi bucket and compress it firmly. As long as the bucket is not completely full, the contents of the Bokashi bucket are weighed down and covered with a sandbag (a shovelful of sand in a plastic shopping bag), so that the fermentation is influenced as little as possible by oxygen.

Why ferment instead of composting?
When done properly:
- Ideal for Eco-People with a small garden, terrace, roof garden or balcony.
- No mold development.
- No unwanted spreading of seeds.
- Even stubborn plant roots cannot take root again (e.g. Ground Elder or Aegopodium podagraria).

The practical set of 2 contains two composting buckets at the same time: while the full Bokashi "rests" for at least 14 days, put the second one into operation.
