Many years ago, STABILO became the first pencil manufacturer with the FSC quality mark (FSC no. 139). This makes them a pioneer in supporting controlled and ecologically responsible forest management.

Together with the FSC, STABILO supports initiatives that help to preserve valuable primary forests and ensure long-term protection of the original inhabitants of those forests; environmentally friendly use of wood as raw material. The FSC quality mark is awarded to forestry companies, but also to complete manufacturing processes. STABILO guarantees that every step in the manufacturing process meets the strict requirements of the FSC.

By the way, the “lead” of a pencil is made from graphite and clay, and not lead at all. Instead of varnish, Stabilo uses a layer of beeswax. This natural protection, which is also used in the food industry, closes the pores in the wood and protects - in a simple and effective way - against dirt and bacteria. Also, the “lead” does not even extend to the end of the pencil, which cannot be used for writing anyway. In this way we prevent the useless loss of valuable raw materials such as graphite. And a nice bonus for all those who chew their pencil: the tongue no longer gets a dirty color.
