Oceans make up 2/3 of planet Earth. They provide millions of people with livelihoods and millions more with essential food. Furthermore, the Oceans keep the world's environment in balance. Scientists have discovered that the oceans have the ability to absorb CO2, one of the main greenhouse gases produced by humans. Oceans do us the service of cleansing our atmosphere of man-made greenhouse gases. Sometimes the coral reefs are called the rainforest of the sea. Although coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor, they are home to more than 25% of marine species and also have the ability to absorb CO2. In general, the world's oceans absorb as much CO2 as rainforests and healthy reefs play a very important role in this.

What is oxybenzone and why you should worry about it.
Oxybenzone is the most common chemical compound used in sunscreen. According to EWG, oxybenzone is found in 80% of chemical sunscreens on the market. EWG rated oxybenzone 8 out of 10 on its toxicity rating. Translated into understandable English, this means that oxybenzone is one of the most toxic ingredients in the cosmetic industry. Even in very low concentrations, this substance harms marine life.

Oxybenzone mimics human hormones and is increasingly linked to problems such as early puberty, lower sperm count and hormone-related cancer.

But Oxybenzone is also highly toxic when it comes into contact with marine life and wildlife in general. With up to 15,000 tonnes of sunscreen washed into the sea at popular seaside resorts, Oxybenzone is a GLOBAL environmental problem. In 25% of all sunburns, the cream is washed away within 20 minutes of application. Tests show that the substance ends up in your urine within 30 minutes. It then enters the sea via sewage treatment systems.

Oxybenzone causes reef bleaching, which kills the coral. Scientists have proven that a single drop of Oxybenzone has an effect on coral in an area equivalent to 6 Olympic swimming pools. In addition to corals, oxybenzone is also toxic to algae, sea urchins, fish and marine mammals. Both dolphins and human mothers can transmit oxybenzone to their children through breast milk.

Other toxins such as methoxycinnamate and camphor, compounds derived from mineral oil parabens, are used in the cosmetic industry as preservatives. This is not biodegradable and potentially toxic to marine life.

But what alternative is there? Uncoated zinc oxide or titanium oxide NANO particles are no better. With all that in mind, Amazinc! come to a conclusion; As far as science allows, bulk zinc oxide is the safest for the environment today.

A current trend in sunscreen products is to convert zinc oxide and titanium dioxide (two UV filter materials) into nano-particles. This ensures long-lasting and colorless sun protection. These nano particles are very small (1000x smaller than the skin cell) and very different. Due to their small size, they pose dangers to consumer health and the environment. A study by National Geographic has shown that exposing sea urchins to nanoparticles leads to negative developments such as the loss of their natural self-defense or even the loss of the ability to eat. The sea urchins in the study were only exposed to very small amounts. That's why Amazinc! to make their products nano-free.
